I just decided that when they’re old enough, I’m starting my boys on Episode IV and not even telling them about 1-3. I’ve even got an old VHS copy, so they’ll see Han shoot first and Vader will silently make the ultimate sacrifice.
Charles Dickens Speaks From The Grave
When Charles Dickens died at age 58, he had been hard at work on a new novel, which was to be called The Mystery of Edwin Drood. The story was a murder mystery, with the titular Edwin vanishing and presumed dead. Unfortunately, Dickens succumbed before the book was finished. There were several attempts by other writers to finish the tale, including one version by Charles Dickens Jr.The weirdest version was penned by a printer from Vermont in 1873. The man, named Thomas James, claimed that Charles Dickens himself had channeled him from beyond the grave to finish the story once and for all. James would sit and write in a strange handwriting (which belonged to neither him nor Dickens). Many people dismissed James as some kind of con artist. After the book was finished, it was well received in the United States, but rather less so in the United Kingdom. However, spiritualists such as Arthur Conan Doyle lent their support to James, believing he had indeed been in contact with the deceased author. Not surprisingly, Thomas James never wrote another book, despite lucrative offers. [x] [Read more]
1930’s Teen Delinquents
i.e. life role models
I’m just gonna reblog this again because it’s one of my favorite pictures ever.
That girl in the chair seems like such a badass I bet she was the leader of the crew.
I want to write about these girls.
When I was a teenager my mother found my grandmother’s (her mother) school scrapbook. It included things like photos, notes, and a two page spread of every demerit she ever received over the course of her formal education. Each of them set aside with little tags like she was so fucking proud of them. They were all for things like, “Unladylike behavior” or, “Skirt too short” or, “refuses to listen to authority”. I loved that spread so much.
I always have to reblog this.

Sky Tapestry, by Cordella Lackey
A tapestry jewelled hangs over the night;
Have you looked up to see where it gleams?
There are rubies and sapphires and diamonds white
Interwoven with mists of lost dreams.
This tapestry ancient was hung up for you
Before Time tried to reckon with Space;
And for ages to come it will hang in the blue,
Starry jewels each one in its place.
Each star has a story, each mist is alight;
If you seek to know each priceless fold
You will treasure this tapestry hung up at night
By the Weaver of tapestries old.
